Ignorance

Is there really such a thing as happiness? And if so, can it be achieved? Should it be achieved? Or is it something that's created to help us aspire for something more, to continue to do more? Or is the ultimate goal to just be content?

These are some of the thought-provoking questions brought up at Ignorance, a puppet show currently on at the Cultch. In a word, this show is wonderful. It has humour and intelligence, and yes it has puppets. I've seen other puppet shows at the Cultch before, such as Ronnie Burkett's work, which is dark and amazing. Kudos to The Cultch for continuing to work with these artists, such as The Old Trout Puppet Workshop who are responsible for bringing us the world premiere of Ignorance here in Vancouver. In fact, the past few shows I have seen at the Cultch have all been a breath of fresh air and have definitely added to the city's theatre scene.

Ignorance is a visual masterpiece; an entertaining piece of art that will have you grinning from ear to ear. The audience was in stitches as we were taken back to the early days of civilization, where even then mankind was just trying to find happiness. With near-flawless execution, the three puppeteers glide seamlessly from role to role, from prehistoric to modern day, all to a stunning soundtrack and a hilarious documentary-style voice over narrating all the action.
