The Little Mermaid the musical

Sorry, I've been swamped with work and haven't had much time to explore fun in Vancouver for awhile. I did manage to make it out to Align Entertainment's mounting of Disney's The Little Mermaid musical however! And boy am I glad I did!

For a local theatre company, Align Entertainment manages to put on quite the production at the Michael J. Fox theatre! The Little Mermaid had wonderful stage settings and props, and a huge cast of characters, and pretty much the most perfect live-action Ariel ever! She was like the cartoon come to life, vocal gymnastics and all!

I wish Ursula had just a little bit more oomph to her, but she was good as well. I think because the animated version is just so campy and over the top, the live performance was gonna be hard to measure up.

The Little Mermaid is on now at the Michael J. Fox theatre until February 18! Go be part of their world!

Simon Starling at the Rennie Collection

Another art gallery I managed to hit up over the holidays was the Rennie Collection in Chinatown.  I love going to this space and seeing not just the different artists that get brought in and displayed, but also the oldest building in Chinatown.

Currently on at the Rennie is an exhibit on Simon Starling:

The exhibit runs at the Rennie Collection at Wing Sang until March 25.

Vancouver Art Gallery

I've been neglecting this blog lately! You know how the holidays can get. It's been a bit busy, so I haven't had time to update, but here are some things I managed to do during the last month. One of those things was go and visit the latest exhibits at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and boy are there some cool things going on there, including an exhibit on local Vancouver artists.

Here's a taste of some of the things you can expect to see there right now:

Most of these were taken from the Juxtapoz x Superflat exhibit, but there's also a Walker Evans photography exhibit, and We Come to Witness: Sonny Assu in Dialogue with Emily Carr (where spaceships are put into Emily Carr paintings!)

Go check them out!
